Nel periodo natalizio, “Oh Happy Day” è una hit famosissima legata ai festeggiamenti del Natale e dell’anno nuovo. In realtà il testo celebra il “giorno felice” (oh happy day) in cui Gesù “lavò i miei peccati” (washed my sins away) e insegnò a “guardare, lottare e pregare” ed a essere felici ogni giorno. Si tratta, quindi, di un inno di Pasqua (il giorno felice) e viene usato nelle chiese protestanti anglosassoni come inno per il Battesimo e la Cresima. “Oh Happy Day” è una canzone gospel che viene eseguita in coro, molto utilizzata anche nei concertini natalizi delle scuole per far cantare ai bambini un testo in inglese.
